Return To Homepage Dear Lawn Tractor/Mower Owner,
CUT COSTS THIS FALL and TRIM HASSLES NEXT SPRING
Maintain your riding lawnmower or tractor this fall to ensure maximum
performance next season.
WINTER TRACTOR/MOWER STORAGE TIPS:
FUEL
- Top off fuel tank
before storage. Before you fill up, add BRIGGS & STRATTON FUEL
STABILIZER(tm) to the fuel.
- Run engine for a few
minutes to circulate the additive through the carburetor.
Note: if you choose NOT to use the BRIGGS & STRATTON gasoline
additive, or if the engine is using fuel containing alcohol, such as
gasohol, remove all fuel from the tank and run the engine until it stops
from lack of fuel.
OIL
- While the engine is
still warm, change the oil and the oil filter (if equipped) using BRIGGS
& STRATTON oil and genuine oil filter.
FOG THE ENGINE
- Remove the air
cleaner, start the engine, and with the engine running, spray BRIGGS
& STRATTON FOGGING OIL into the carburetor throat for approximately
5 seconds (longer for larger engines) or until the engine stops running.
- Fogging the engine
prevents internal rust to cylinder walls, rings, and valves.
SPARK PLUG
- Remove spark plug and
pour about 1/2 oz of engine oil into the cylinder.
- Install new spark plug
and crank slowly to distribute the oil.
- Disconnect plug wire
or power cord.
BATTERY
- Disconnect the battery
cable from the terminals on units so equipped. You can also remove the
battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
STORAGE
- Clean your lawn
tractor/mower, cleaning the engine surface of debris, chaff or grass.
- Store your lawn
tractor/mower in a clean, dry area, but not near a stove, furnace, water
heater or any equipment that uses a pilot light or any device that can
create a spark.
